Kaiser Permanente
What you should know about getting care during a labor strike
Here in Northern California, Kaiser Permanente is bargaining in good faith with some of our labor unions. The Pharmacy Guild which represents our pharmacists has announced plans for a strike from November 15 through November 22.

We have also received notices from several other unions for one-day sympathy strikes that will take place November 18 and November 19.

Your health and safety come first
As always, meeting your care needs is our top priority.

In the event of a strike, we may need to reschedule elective surgeries, nonurgent appointments, or change your appointment to a phone or video visit. We’ll contact you in advance if there are changes to your appointments. There’s no need to call or email your doctor’s office at this time. We apologize for any inconvenience.

Pharmacy
Should a strike occur, our outpatient pharmacies will be temporarily closed from November 15 to the morning of November 22. If you don’t need your refill right away, our outpatient pharmacies will reopen on the morning of Monday, November 22. Our Mail Delivery pharmacy will remain open during the strike. In the event an urgent prescription is needed during the outpatient pharmacy closure, Kaiser Permanente staff will provide you with direction on how to fill your prescription at a retail pharmacy. For Medi-Cal members, there will be no cost. For other members, your usual cost share for in-network pharmacy services will apply. Hospital pharmacies for inpatient care and critical infusion services will remain in operation. Please check kp.org for more information starting November 15.

Lab and Radiology
Our lab and radiology services are expected to be affected. We encourage you to schedule an appointment should you need either of these services between November 17 and November 19.

Emergency Care
Our Emergency Departments will be open and operating to care for emergencies during any strike. We do, however, anticipate significant Emergency Department wait times November 15 through November 22. Emergency Departments at other, non-Kaiser Permanente facilities may have shorter waiting times during this period. If you have a routine, non-emergent care issue, we are happy to help you find a convenient care option through kp.org/getcare or by phone at 866-454-8855 (TTY 711), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. But, as always, if you are having a medical emergency, please dial 911 or proceed to an Emergency Department.
