Updates coming to Kaiser Permanente member ID cards

Starting in November 2021, we’ll be updating both physical and digital member ID cards to comply with the federal “No Surprises Act,” which is part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2021, or H.R. 133.

According to the new requirement, health plan ID cards will need to display specific plan information, including:

  • The annual out-of-pocket maximum
  • Any plan deductible
  • A website or telephone number where members can get information about network health care professionals and facilities

These changes are intended to give members a better understanding of their costs for covered services.

When will Kaiser Permanente members get their new ID cards?

In December 2021, all members will be able to get their updated digital ID cards through the Kaiser Permanente mobile app. Starting November 6, 2021, we’ll mail updated physical cards directly to new members, as well as to current members whose benefits have changed. Members who order a new physical card on kp.org or by contacting Member Services will get one in the new format after November 6, 2021.

If you have any questions about the new cards, please contact your Kaiser Permanente representative.
